Mission
The Women of the Americas Sustainability Initiative (WASI) is an action-oriented alliance of women leaders who construct, educate, organize, and advocate for strong and empowered communities through ecological design-build practices, with the aim of creating a socially and ecologically resilient world.
Vision
We envision women leading the building of thriving communities that include healthy shelter, food, water and environments that are harmonious with the natural world and local cultures.
Goals
To inspire peer-based local, regional and global alliances of women who:
1) Lead ecological design-build projects that affirm, revive and refine indigenous building practices,
2) Generate local participation that builds thriving, empowered communities, and
3) Create healthy, long-lasting and integrated environments that support the well-being of all.

Overview
In March 2012, WASI will bring together a Corps of 60 women leaders from 15 countries for a two-week, deep-level alliance building and hands-on training convergence. Throughout the year, the Corps will continue to serve as the ongoing organizing body, teachers, leaders and agents of change for this global alliance, including:
• 10 Instructors – Ecological and indigenous design-builders
• 20 Global Peers – Fundraisers, documenters, multimedia storytellers, advocates and logistical coordinators
• 30 Delegates – Teams of two women per country who will return to their countries to train a total of 1,500 people while constructing 15 buildings that serve local communities, including clinics, orphanages, schools and community centers.

Commitment
• Called: To be a Global Peers starts with feeling the call and being 100% on board with the essence of WASI.
• Ownership: As one of the Global Peers, you will coordinate and steer your part in taking WASI global!
• Hours: Time per week will vary depending on each position. The position links above list further details.
• Dates: December 2011 through May of 2012, or longer, and will fill on a first come, first served basis.
• Material rights: Kleiwerks International reserves rights to all materials related to WASI. All global peers, delegates, WASI Builder participants, our host and some sponsors will have access to these materials, with credit attributed.
• Relationship building: You will be expected to participate in the quarterly field reports and council calls with Corps delegations, staff, internationally recognized instructors and other Global Peers.
• Supportive transition: You will support the transition of the Global Peer who is transitioning into your position at the end of your position’s cycle. If you wish to renew your position, we will review at that point.

Benefits
As one of WASI’s 20 Global Peers, you will:
• Be part of a peer-based global alliance of women leaders who build, educate, organize, and advocate for strong and empowered communities.
• Work closely with KI’s Director and an accomplished, compassionate and dynamic team of professionals who are dedicated to social and ecological justice.
• Build deeply connected relationships with WASI’s 30 delegates from 15 countries–native and modern indigenous women leaders.
• Participate in the two-week, hands-on leadership training convergence and be part of the close-knit team that makes it possible. Learn ecological building technologies from top notch instructors. Your food and accommodations will be covered, but travel is not included unless we meet 100% of our fundraising goals. The training will be hosted by WASI’s partner, Center for the Investigation, Development and Education of Permaculture (CIDEP), in Patagonia, Argentina; March 3rd-17th 2012. You will be expected to be there a few days on both ends (February 27th-March 21st), totaling three weeks. If you can arrange it, we highly recommend scheduling an additional week to explore this exceptionally beautiful area.
• Join a WASI Builders two-week action learning immersion to continue deepening your relationship with ecological building and WASI in community action. Choose from 15 delegations, projects and countries. Simple accommodations and food will be covered, but not travel. Depending on size of certain groups, some trips may be unavailable.
• Continue to deepen your connection with WASI’s Corps during quarterly calls throughout the year
• As a graduate of WASI year one, you will become a Kleiwerks International Affiliate. Affiliates will be profiled on our website and have access to shared media archives, as well as to WASI’s 15 communities, other centers and natural builders around the world.
• Most importantly, help build a movement that will benefit thousands of women across the Americas.
