Turkey’s First Natural Building Training, 2011

Kleiwerks International director co-leads first natural building workshop in country

Permakültür buluşmasının ve ekolojik mimari atölyesinin harmanlandığı haber.

This is one of the most read, mainstream newspapers of Turkey. This article was published in 2011 following the first natural building training in Turkey. Janell Kapoor, director of Kleiwerks International, co-led the event with Penny Livingston and Filiz Telek. It was hosted by Bayramiç Yeniköy Ida Mountains Ecological Life and Seed Association. Yeni Köy is an initiative that is creating a self-sustaining village based on permaculture philosophy and design. Participants included 60 architects, engineers, artists, students and other enthusiasts.

Yeniköy went on to host the first National Permaculture Convergence of Turkey with 200 attendees. The local municipality was so inspired, they applied to be a “Slow City.” Seed-saving networks have strengthened and the natural building movement in Turkey continues to grow in numbers.

Janell and Penny have been invited to teach again, May 12-19, 2012. Several seats have been reserved for non-Turks. Contact ekomimari2012@gmail.comif you would like to attend.

Global Buildings and Construction: Energy and Environmental Impacts (PDF), 2011

This document was prepared by SWCA Environmental Consultants and explores environmental impacts of construction practices.

“Introduction
This information has been prepared in response to a request from Kleiwerks International for data regarding the energy, greenhouse gas (GHG), and other environmental impacts of current and future global construction practices. As Kleiwerks’ main focus is currently in the developing world, developing world data have been cited separately, where possible. In some cases, data were only available for particular nations or regions within the developed world; such data are identified as such.

The document is divided into two sections. The first presents the data as much as possible in a way which lends itself to clear, simple, striking communication. The second is a compilation of the information used as the basis behind the first section, with references.”
