Kleiwerks International director co-leads first natural building workshop in country
Permakültür buluşmasının ve ekolojik mimari atölyesinin harmanlandığı haber.
This is one of the most read, mainstream newspapers of Turkey. This article was published in 2011 following the first natural building training in Turkey. Janell Kapoor, director of Kleiwerks International, co-led the event with Penny Livingston and Filiz Telek. It was hosted by Bayramiç Yeniköy Ida Mountains Ecological Life and Seed Association. Yeni Köy is an initiative that is creating a self-sustaining village based on permaculture philosophy and design. Participants included 60 architects, engineers, artists, students and other enthusiasts.
Yeniköy went on to host the first National Permaculture Convergence of Turkey with 200 attendees. The local municipality was so inspired, they applied to be a “Slow City.” Seed-saving networks have strengthened and the natural building movement in Turkey continues to grow in numbers.
Janell and Penny have been invited to teach again, May 12-19, 2012. Several seats have been reserved for non-Turks. Contact ekomimari2012@gmail.comif you would like to attend.

This document was prepared by SWCA Environmental Consultants and explores environmental impacts of construction practices.
“Introduction
This information has been prepared in response to a request from Kleiwerks International for data regarding the energy, greenhouse gas (GHG), and other environmental impacts of current and future global construction practices. As Kleiwerks’ main focus is currently in the developing world, developing world data have been cited separately, where possible. In some cases, data were only available for particular nations or regions within the developed world; such data are identified as such.
The document is divided into two sections. The first presents the data as much as possible in a way which lends itself to clear, simple, striking communication. The second is a compilation of the information used as the basis behind the first section, with references.”

Examines the destruction of the earthquake that hit Haiti in January 2010 and why so many buildings crumbled whereas earthquakes of higher intensity in other parts of the world have not had such devastating effects. Rebuilding efforts must take longevity and sustainability into consideration.

The blog G.G. Traveler “The Carolina Traveler” posted this article about the 2011 Natural Building Extravaganza at Ashevillage Institute. 5/13/2011
Original article: http://ggtraveler.blogspot.com/2011/05/meeting-people-who-are-determined-to.html
“Meeting people who are determined to improve the world was a great way to spend a day in Asheville, a city strongly associated with ecology and green living. Each person I spoke with at the Natural Building Extravaganza has been struck by the ridiculousness of people working 30 years to pay for a house in our country when the materials for building a home are found in or near most sites, especially in clay-rich, heavily-wooded North Carolina.
Attendees at the Natural Building Extravaganza in Asheville for the last three weeks have been learning …”

“FROM THE EARTH, A VILLAGE IS BORN”
by Brendan Conley, Fall 2002
Appeared in the “Asheville Global Report” and in “Building Without Borders” 2004 – Joseph Kennedy, New Society Publishers
The group includes Buddhist monks, Thai students and professionals, villagers displaced by development projects, and farang, or Westerners–several hundred people in all. They are all spending a month in rural Chaiyaphum province building Mun Yuen, a sustainable self-sufficient community and the nation’s first earthen village. “We are building a community, not just houses,” said Thanai Uthaipattrakoon, who quit his job as a conventional architect to teach– and learn– natural building. “I want people to know that they can design and build their own homes,” he said.
