Comic Strip by the lovely & talented Kelley Rustine

If at first you don’t succeed…

This week we found ourselves with plenty to do and a lot of challenges. We came back from break and realized the straw clay we made before we left for a week mysteriously turned into hay clay, and it was starting to sprout cute little rye seedlings. This mishap inspired some artistic comical creations by a couple of the apprentices for your listening and laughing pleasure. First, a song inspired in part by these true events, and also by an artist the author likes to listen to while working, with a great message for trying times like this, the late and great Aaliyah and her hit, ‘Try Again’. We recommend looking for the instrumental version online and singing along, it’s a lot of fun.

“Rye Again” by Victoria Garza

Verse:
What would you do
If you found some seeds?
What would you say
if your straw was hay?
Would you give up,
Or try again
If we hesitate
To throw it in
The trees, or on
The ground to soak
Up all the mud
So we don’t fall~
That stuff’s not good
To make a wall
It’ll start to sprout
And prolly fall out!

Chorus:
If your slipstraw’s got some seeds
Throw it in the woods and try again
Rinse yourself off and rye again!
If your slipstraw’s got some seeds
You slipped a bunch of hay, but it’s okay.
Dust yourself off and try again, rye again!

Hook:
We didn’t wanna throw it all away.
You might slip hay on the first day,
But what about the next day?
(straw, straw, straw, straw)

We didn’t wanna throw it all away.
You might slip hay on the first day,
But what about the next day?
(straw, straw, straw, straaaaaaaaawww)

Hope you enjoyed that at least half as much as we have been.
